WHETHER we feel like it or not, Christmas songs are heard everywhere you go (even if you’re at home most of the time, Holiday-themed jingles and promos are everywhere!).
There are various Christmas songs that fits your mood. There are happy, sad and hopeful tracks. There are a chosen few that sticks to our hearts no matter how long they’ve been released.

White Christmas by Bing Crosby
Perhaps the most outstanding of the Christmas songs in this list is “White Christmas”. It was written by Irving Berlin for the film Holiday Inn which was released in 1942. The popularity of the song earned it the Academy Award for best Original Song at the 15th Academy Awards.
Just like many iconic songs, White Christmas has been covered numerous time throughout the years by various artists and bands, although the original was sang by Bing Crosby. Several versions of the song by Michael Buble, Glee cast, Gwen Stefani and Meghan Trainor had reached peaks in various charts worldwide.
Happy Xmas (War is Over) by John Lennon
The song “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” has its roots as a protest against the war America rage against Vietnam. Released in 1971 by John Lennon and Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band together with the Harlem Community Choir. The song had been in constant play in different countries and is particularly popular in the United Kingdom.
It re-emerged again after John Lennon’s death in 1980. This song was also covered by John Legend and had reached top positions in the United Kingdom and the United States.
Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney
“Wonderful Christmastime” was written and produced by none other than Sir Paul McCartney. This was his first solo single that was released since his band, Wings was formed.
It was recorded in 1979 and was released the same year. Although it was considered to be a mediocre creation of the legendary Paul McCartney, this song continued to reach top positions in various charts such as Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart. Not too shabby for a mediocre song which earned him about $15M from the royalties alone huh?
Walking in a Winter Wonderland by Dean Martin
The song “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” was released by Dean Martin in 1959 as part of his album “A Winter Romance”, which contains twelve songs in total. Although it has been decades since the song was first released, the popularity of the song to the masses never fades. Just like iconic Christmas songs, this song was covered numerous times by various artists including Michael Buble, Amy Grant and Bing Crosby.
It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year by Andy Williams
We should give thanks to Edward Pola and George Wyle for writing this gem of a song in 1963. A popular Christmas song, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” was interpreted and released by Andy Williams and was included in his first Christmas album – “The Andy Williams Christmas Album”. Other version of the song includes cover by Johnny Mathis, Garth Brooks, Harry Connick Jr. and BarlowGirl.
Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee
Finally, the last in our list is the song “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”. This was written by Johnny Marks and interpreted by Brenda Lee in 1958. Fast forward to 50 years after its released, the song had sold more than 25 million copies all over the world. Several artists such as Kim Wilde and Mel Smith, Justin Beiber, Alabama, LeAnn Rimes and Harris and Ford and Gabry Ponte covered this iconic classic.
