NOONG UNANG ma-preview ko ang indie film na ito, umagaw ng aking pansin ang cinematoraphy na maganda. Wala akong masabi, ‘di na kailangan ng mga effect sa kulay, maganda ang blending nito. Marahil sa lugar dahil sa may seashore ang lugar nito or ang klima ng Long Island sa parteng Cebu City.
Ang Ang Damgo ni Eleuteria (The Dream of Eleuteria), a film by Director Remton Siega Zuasola, ay tungkol sa buhay ni Terya na lumisan sa isla sa Cebu patungong Germany upang siya ay makaahon sa kahirapan. Samantala, ang isla naman na kanyang nilisan ay itinuturing naman na tila paraiso ng mga taga-lungsod.
Isang langit ang makarating sa Germany. Sa kuwentong indie film na ito ay nag-umpisa ang pangarap ni Terya upang makarating sa abroad. Ipinakikita rito na kung papaano siya nagsimulang magplano. Marami siyang dinaanang usap hanggang sa makasakay ng pumpboat, kung saan mayroong maliit na pantalan patungo sa destinasyon ng kanyang kapalaran.
Ayon kay Direk Remton, “Ang masasabi ko ay ibinibigay talaga namin ang trabaho sa project na ito. Lahat ng problems, pasakit, lahat ng pakapalan ng mukha na ganito, ganyan. Normal ang you borrow ng kahit ano para magawa lang ang project, lahat ay pakiusap.”
Sa tingin mo, sa indie film na ito, naniniwala ka ba na baka isang araw na may makapansin nito at manalo ka ng awards sa iba’t-ibang bansa. Minsan pwedeng maging pera rin iyan in return para makapagpatuloy ka sa pag-direk sa project, naisip mo na ba ‘yan? “Of course, we gain a lot kahit na siguro walang awards. Basta… kasi awards, eh, bonus na lang iyan, eh.”
Ang nasabing pelikula ay isang Cebuano indie film na nakasungkit ng 4 na Gawad Urian Award trophies, kabilang ang Best Director at Best Picture. Nang mga nakaraan taon ay Jury Prize Award sa Cinema One Originals at nakatangap ng Special Jury Award sa International Competition Section of the Jeonju International Film Festival in South Korea.
CALL FOR ENTRIES TO CINEMALAYA 2012 EXHIBITION SECTIONS
CINEMALAYA IS inviting filmmakers to submit screeners of their films to the various Cinemalaya sections, namely, NETPAC Philippine Premieres, Ani (a harvest of the best Filipino indie films), Kids Treats (indie films for children) and Midnite Specials (Indie films with adult themes), Documentary and Opening Film.
Deadline for submission is on May 25, 2012. Filmmakers should submit their screeners in DVD format together with the synopsis of their film, a still picture, production information and their contact details. The required materials should be submitted to the CCP Film office at the 4th floor, CCP Main Building, on Tuesday-Friday, 9 AM-6 PM.
The Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition seeks to discover, encourage, and honor the cinematic works of Filipino filmmakers that boldly articulate and freely interpret the Filipino experience with fresh insight and artistic integrity. The works are narrative features that articulate Filipino identity and culture in digital format. The competition is held in three categories, the New Breed Full Length Feature, Short Feature and the Directors Showcase.
Cinemalaya 2012 will be held on July 20-29, 2012 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. It is a project of the of the Cinemalaya Foundation, Inc., in partnership with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), and the Econolink Investments, Inc. (EEI). Cinemalaya also features the Short Feature competition category as well as film exhibitions, seminars, conference, the Cinemalaya Film Congress, and other film-related events.
