There are Filipino artists who successfully broke into the impregnable international entertainment industry like Lea Salonga, Charice, Arnel Pineda, Lou Diamond Phillips, Phoebe Cates, Tia Carrera, Black Eyed Peas’ Apl.de.ap (Allan Pineda Lindo) and The Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger. Pero meron ding mga foreign star na napamahal na sa ating mga Pinoy like Malaysian actress-model Carmen Soo who was recently here in the country.
Her teleserye Kahit Isang Saglit opposite Jericho Rosales is nominated under the Best Telenovela category of the 37th International Emmy Awards. Like Echo, gusto ring pumunta ni Carmen sa awarding ceremony which will be held on November 23 at the Hilton New York Hotel. “It’s a once in a lifetime chance. When I go there, I’ll be representing the Philippines and Malaysia.”
Speaking of Echo, ano itong narinig namin na tinatawag daw niyang Mei si Carmen? Is it a term of endearment since she was once linked to him? “Mei is a name for little girl/youngest daughter in Malaysia. Everyone calls me Mei,” Carmen explains. What does she call him? “I call him Echo.”
Napamahal na sa bansa si Carmen. Although she is Malaysian, siya ay may pusong Pinoy. Nakakatuwang pakinggan si Carmen when she speaks Tagalog. She chose to celebrate her birthday by participating in the relief operations together with the Sagip Kapamilya volunteers in Calumpit, Bulacan. Carmen is a wonderful lady with a golden heart. I hope we could still see more of her doing acting jobs in the country.
Carmen revealed on The Buzz that she underwent an operation to remove a lump on her breast. “About ten years ago, I found it. It was only an inch big. The doctor said it’s benign so I could just leave it but monitored every year. I actually missed the check last year because I was here. I was busy. So this year, I went to check it. It became two inches. Pretty big to the point that you can see it. They removed it. It was a very painful experience for me and I was down for about two months. It was the first operation in my life.” Mabuti na lang at magaling na siya and she is back in the business.
Carmen is now the new face of Clinelle, a professional skin care line that consists of face care, special care which includes whitening, anti-aging, blemish control and intense moisturizing products, eye care, body care and even UV protection. Kaya naman pala lalong blooming at radiant ang skin ni Carmen ngayon sa kabila ng kanyang haywire schedule. Carmen is now in Singapore to tape a new television series.
