KASALUKU-YANG NASA London na si Derek Ramsay sa ngayon para sa coverage ng TV5 sa 2012 London Olympics. Pero bago pa man siya lumipad pa-puntang London ay napagbigyan niya kami ng isang mahabang panayam. Dito namin inusisa si Derek tungkol sa mga bago sa buhay niya ngayon.
Una na nga rito ang naulat na freak accident na nangyari sa kanya sa Japan, kung saan naiulat din namin dito ang kanyang pag-ihi ng dugo. Pero after daw noon, titigil na siya sa paglalaro ng Frisbee sa mga kumpetisyon.
“I can still compete with all those young guys, but ‘yung mga mga sakit sa katawan, ‘yung mga injuries, I don’t recover as fast, du’n ‘yung disappointing side ‘coz kaya pa naman eh, I am fast, I can jump as high but ‘yung recovery, matagal.
“Of course I will always support the sport and all sport in general. I’ll be coaching and of course, I’ll be tempted to throw the dish every now and then, but to go and compete in the next world’s, that’s a no, no.”
July 10, naman ng nakausap namin si Angelica Panganiban sa isang endorsement presscon, kung saan tahasan nitong sinabi sa media na naka-move on na siya. Reaksiyon ni Derek, “Yah yah, if you love somebody you should want her to be happy, if she’s happy that way, it makes me happy as well.
“I feel good. I moved on. You know what, it’s not easy to forget 6 years, and definitely will never forget. That’s a lot of memories and every now and then mapapa-look back ka, but then our paths just didn’t end up the same way, and I’m very happy where I am right now and I’m ready to meet new people.
“I love to meet new people and let’s enjoy life. My dad said it the day you’re born is the day you start dying so might as well, what you do in between that might matter. So gotta get on your feet and ipagpatuloy ang buhay.”
Isa sa mga tanong kay Angel sa presscon ay kung nagkakausap pa ba sila ng ex-boyfriend pero parang pahapyaw at pabiro niyang sagot na naghihintay lang naman siya ng tawag. Pagkaklarao naman ni Derek, “You know, I love to see Angel and talk to her face to face, or even a phone call. But I’m sure she’s very busy and from what I’ve seen on TV she looks very happy.
“What I see on TV and on her eyes, I know she’s very happy, I feel good that… I know she wants to grow and find her ownself, maybe I’ll give her a call, I don’t know… I don’t know what to say but the great thing about this, is kung bakit pareho kaming nakaka- move on is walang siraan, walang badmouthing. If you weigh the scale, mas lamang ang good times namin sa bad times by a big chunk, so alam mo na we had a very mature relationship. Walang I love you now, I hate you tomorrow. That’s the good thing about our relationship.”
Ano naman kaya ang masasabi niya na maraming mga sightings at pagkakataong nakitang magkasama sa mga restaurant sina Angel at John Lloyd Cruz? Sagot nito, “That’s good, if she finds something that I lack in John Lloyd then I’m happy for them. I don’t know exactly what’s going on between Angel and John Lloyd. I don’t wanna make any assumptions, but if, kung meron, I wish them the best. Sana mahanap ni Angel ‘yung happines na hinahanap niya kay John Lloyd.”
Tinanong din namin siya kung siya ba sa sarili na ay handa na ring makikipag-date at umibig? Tugon ni Derek, “You know that hits you anytime, when you say you’re not ready, or when you say you’re ready that hits you, the best way to know that, the next relationship you’ll have is you don’t look for it.
“Yeah, I don’t know, I don’t want to say I’m not ready or I’m ready, basta ganu’n talaga ang buhay, sinabi ko na naman kay Angel ‘yan, people fall in and out of love everyday, so if she’s fallen out of love with me, I will continue to respect that.”
Sa ngayon ba masasabi niyang happy siya? “I am, I have a wonderful family, who is always there for me, every time I fall down, they’re there to pick me up. That’s why I’m very lucky, my family is always there for me, so when I get down because of the break up, they’re there to pick me up.”
Sinabi man niyang hindi naman kaila-ngang hanapin ang isang pag-ibig at kusa lang itong darating. Wala naman daw panahon ang Kapatid Hunk sa bagong pag-ibig sa ngayon dahil sa sobrang puno ang kanyang schedule ng mga commitment.
Detalye niya pa sa amin, “You know, I don’t have rest talaga. You know, we shot the Amazing Race (Philippines), na shoot na namin, tapos na lahat, walang anu ‘yun, wala akong pahinga du’n. No one knows that, it took a while, tuluy-tuloy ‘yun.
“Pagkatapos diretsong competition sa Japan, konting pahinga lang ngayon and then alis na ulit ako for Olympics. So, I’ll be in London for a month. And then when I get back here, I think I’ll spend a couple of hours in Manila and then I’ll fly to New York. I might be guesting on the soft opening of TV5, kung makahabol. I’ll try my best, kasi ‘di naman parang Quiapo ‘yan, ang papuntang New York.”
Pagkauwi daw niya sa bansa galing New York in October, sunod naman niyang gawin ang movie niya sa Viva Films. Dagdag pa niya, “And then ‘yung movie na I’m gonna be shooting with Anne Curtis, and hindi na si KC (Concepcion), si Andi Eigenmann na, she’s a very talented actress.”
Kasama ni Derek na lumipad noong Martes, July 24 ang kanyang ama, ina at kapatid na nakatakdang mag-aral sa Cambridge University.
Bilang isang sportman, ultimate dream daw ni Derek ang pagsali sa Olympics, pero hindi raw ito natupad. Pero masaya na rin siya na naisakatuparan ito, hindi bilang kalahok kundi bilang tagapaghatid ng balita mula London. “Olympics, this is a dream, it’s my passion, been to Olympics before, I wish I was competing, so hindi nangyari. So, ito na ‘yung second best.
“I wanna get to see the best athletes in the world, even if it’s the sport na hindi ko ginagawa. I admire athletes that excel in their sport, ito ‘yung mga pinakamagaling sa mga sport na ‘yan, lahat sila nandiyan, lahat sila maglalaban laban. And I think we have 11 athletes na sasabak and I hope, makauwi naman tayo ng medal. I heard ‘yung sa BMX may tsansa, laging nanalo ‘yun internationally eh, si Dennis Caluag. So, I think may tsansa.”
BLIND ITEM: Kinsa Siya? Sino itong actor na lagi na lang natsi-tsimis na dominador (read: madumi)? Nangyari lamang ito kamakailan lamang sa isang popular filmfest na halos on going pa sa ngayon.
Kuwento ng aming source, nagkakagulo silang makakuha ng interview mula sa isang sikat na hunk actor dahil sa sikip ng lugar na kinaroroonan nito. At nang makaharap na ng aming source ang actor ay nadismaya ito. Isang kulangot ang bumungad sa kanya na halos hindi na niya napansin ang kaguwapuhan ng ini-interview.
Naloka raw ang aming source at hindi na nakapagtanong dahil natakot daw itong baka tuluyan nang mahulog ang letter K mula sa ilong nito.
Hay, ikaw talaga, hunk actor. ‘Di ka muna nanalamin bago magpa-interview, baka iwan ka na nila. ‘Yun na!
