NAGSIMULA NOONG July 2 (Wednesday) ang kauna-unahang World Premieres Film Festival Philippines 2014 sa apat na branches ng SM Cinema – Megamall, North Edsa, Sta Mesa, Manila, at Mall of Asia. Gaganapin ito hanggang July 8 (Tuesday).
Organized by Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), headed by its president Mr. Briccio Santos, and we salute him for this wonderful idea.
Very first attempt ito sa buong Asya na magkaroon ng filmfest kunsaan walong bagong pelikula mula sa iba’t ibang bansa ang dito sa Pilipinas magaganap ang “world premiere” ng mga ito.
Talbog ng Pilipinas ang ibang Asian countries sa pag-organize ng filmfest, dahil hindi lang isa – kundi walo – ang bilang ng mga pelikula from different countries ang tampok, at ditto ang “world premiere”.
Mas pinili ng foreign producers and directors ang i-world premiere ang kanilang films sa ‘Pinas kesa sa sarili nilang mga bansa.
Nasa bansa ang mga sumusunod na foreign filmmakers na bumyahe pa just to attend this: Rosario Teresa Boyer of Brazil (for “The Sharks of Copacobana”), Alfredo Leon Leon of Ecuador (for “Open Wound”).
Nandito rin si F. Zerkan Acar ng Turkey (for “Our Hodja”), at tatlong director mula sa Spain na sina Juan Pinzas (for “New York Shadows”), Arturo Prins (for “Autopsy of Love”), and Vicente Perez Herrero (of “Crustaceans”).
Sa walong competing films, ang representative ng Pilipinas ay si Direk Lav Diaz (tubong Cotobato, Mindanao), na kilala sa kanyang mahahabang oras na pelikula.
Ang kanyang latest na “Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan” na four hours, ay nagwaging Best Film sa Gawad Urian Awards last month, Best Actress for Angeli Bayani, etc.
Bakit nga ba super haba ng mga pelikula ni Direk Lav Diaz? Sa souvenir program ng World Premieres Filmfest lang namin nabasa ang “dahilan”: “He (Lav Diaz) is especially notable for the length of his films, some of which run up to eleven hours. That is because his films are not governed by time but by space and nature.”
Entry niya ay ang “Mula Sa Kung Ano Ang Noon” – na five and a half hours naman.
Tungkol ito sa mga misteryosong bagay na nangyayari sa isang remote na barrio sa Pilipinas noong 1972, panahon ng martial law ni President Marcos.
Ang “Mula Sa Kung Ano Ang Noon” ay mapapanood sa: July 5 (Sabado) nang 7:00 PM sa SM Manila, at sa July 8 (Martes) sa SM North Edsa nang 7:00 PM rin.Marami pang ibang foreign films ang tampok sa iba’t ibang kategorya – Cine Verde (environmental themes), Asean Skies (Asian films), Euroview (European movies), Ibero America.
