AS A COUPLE, almost perfect ang relationship nina Gary Valenciano at Angeli Pa-ngilinan. Maging sa kanilang mga anak na sina Paolo, Gabriel at Keanna, they’re very close to each other. Maganda kasi ang pagpapalaki ng loving couple sa mga ito kaya parang barkada lang kung magturingan sila. They can talk things under the sun, walang sikretong itinatago sa isa’t isa.
Excited na ibinalita ni Mr. Pure Energy na nag-number 2 sa sales ang latest album niyang “With Love, Gary Valenciano” Bonggacious din ang TV Special ng singer/composer last Sunday na dinirek ni Johnny Manahan.
Through the years, na-maintain ni Gary V. ang kanyang kasikatan. Kailan kaya ‘yung time na ipapasa naman niya ang trono? “I don’t know, destiny… he will be on the throne on that particular destiny. To pass the throne on to something else means they’re carrying on what I started. I think that I already done that long long time ago. Now, they we’re able to sweat their set of wings and their flying on their own, Paolo and Gab specially. Paolo is with Salamin, feature singer of Rivermaya, and Gabriel has done arrangement for me and arrangement for Jericho Rosales na medyo kakaiba roon sa mga ginagawa niya sa ASAP. Kasi, sa ASAP puro sayaw, pero with Jericho, ‘yung “Naaalala Ka” at “Bumuhos Man Ang Ulan” are two songs na ballads, pero they both became number one in two different radio station. That’s for me is an area. Kasi ako, I arrange music pero si Gab kaya niya, ang bilis niyang gumawa ng mga areglo na magaganda pa. That itself is an added plus for him.”
Biggest influence ni Gary sa mga anak niya? “Siguro, to have the kind of passion that you need to order to sustain yourself throughout the years. Ayaw kong isipin nila ‘yung ginagawa nila parang racket-racket lang. It’s not about having a racket. It’s really about coming up on stage and sharing who you are, not just your music, but who you really are through your music. Ito siguro ang masasabi kong pinakamalaking influence that I had on them. When Gabriel is at work, it’s very hard to bother him just like me. Si Paolo ganoon din, kapag nagsusulat siya ng kanta, nagre-recording or nagbi-video editing siya. Kasi ‘yun din ang ginagawa niya, very passionate din siya. Si Keanna naman, medyo kakaiba sa lahat dahil ang passion niya talaga is in fashion design, more than singing. She like to sing pero makikita mo talaga sa kuwarto lang niya puro drawing ng kung anu-anong klaseng design, stylish or fashion designer. That’s what I think she wants to become. So, hopefully in the next year we would be able to release something and only then will she able to decide. Ano ba talaga ang gusto kong gawin? Gusto ko bang maging isang fashion designer or si-nger? I told her she can do both.”
Gaano ka-open sa isa’t isa ang mag-amang Gary V. at Gab? “My son Gabriel and I are very open about all issues. In as much as there are eyes that have set tears from those that he has relationship with, I also see a lot of tears fall from his eyes. So, I step back and say, look, there are two sides of the story, there always is and they have to be. I’m glad that today, I think, he learns a lot, you know as a young man,” aniya.
TINUTUKAN NAMIN ANG initial present-ation ng Protégé: The Battle for the Big Break last Sunday ng GMA-7. Very impressive ang mga sumaling contestant sa nasabing reality singing competition. Pinahanga kami sa galing at ganda ng boses ng protégé nina Jay- R (HennethMonico), Janno Gibbs (Lirah Bermudes) at Joey Generoso (Wilson Penaflor). Na touch kami kay Lirah, later na lang ipinagtapat ng kanyang mga magulang na 6 months to one year na lang ang itatagal ng kanyang kapatid na si Toto.
Umikot ang sampung respected mentor who were sent out to different parts of the country to find their three protégés tuladnina Janno Gibbs for Iloilo, Jaya for Davao, Jay-R for Cabanatuan, Rachelle Ann Go for Cebu, Gloc-9 for Manila, Aiza Seguerra for Cagayan de Oro, Imelda Papin for Naga, Claire dela Fuente for Batangas, Joey Generoso of Side A for Dagupan and Rey Valera for Pampanga.
