I have always talked about the immense power and influence of celebrities. Stars and public figures can use their fame for a good cause. The country was recently battered by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng that attacked like a thief at midnight.
Maliban sa mga taong nasawi ay umaabot na sa bilyon ang halaga ng mga nasirang kabahayan, komunidad, pananim at ari-arian. Because of the aftermath, many celebrities have united to help the hapless victims. Isinantabi muna ang network war at nagsama-sama sila – Kapamilya man o Kapuso. Aside from asking their product endorsements for donations, artists donated cash, participated in relief operations and joined charity fashion shows. It is about time to give back and help our kababayans na walang sawang tumatangkilik at sumusuporta sa ating shows, movies, endorsements at concerts.
The inspirational song “Kaya Natin ‘To” written by singer/songwriter Ogie Alcasid was an all-star collaboration. Almost 40 OPM artists from various record labels waived their talent fees and recorded the song in the studio of Jay-R. Among the singers are Regine Velasquez, Erik Santos, Christian Bautista, Charice, KC Concepcion, Arnel Pineda, Jaya, Jay-R, Kyla, Geneva Cruz, Jolina Magdangal, Agot Isidro, Rico Blanco and Karylle. Sina Gary Valenciano, Martin Nievera, Lea Salonga at APO Hiking Society ay magpapadala raw ng kanilang recording kahit sila ay nasa ibang bansa.
Sinabi ni Ogie na gusto niyang gumawa ng kanta na makapagpapalakas ng loob sa mga victims. “Binigyan tayo ng gift to sing and write, bakit hindi natin gamitin ito?”
Samantala, kinakarir din nina Angel Locsin at Anne Curtis ang pagtulong para sa mga nasalanta ng bagyo. They are among the celebrities who spearheaded the website www.shopandshare.ph which is dedicated to help the victims of Ondoy and Pepeng. The site posts photos of designer items belonging to celebrities that are up for bidding. The proceeds of the auction will go directly to the Philippine National Red Cross.

Sa mga artistang walang sawang tumutulong sa ating mga kababayang nasalanta ng bagyo, mabuhay kayong lahat!
