THE SEQUEL to Star Cinema’s One More Chance shown on November 14, 2007 wasn’t forthcoming as it took all of eight years after masundan ang kuwento ng pag-iibigan nina Popoy at Basha in what is touted to be another mammoth box office hit.
Still megged by Cathy Garcia-Molina, A Second Chance reunited the formidable screen partnership of John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo.
Sa grand presscon ng ASC, inamin ni Direk Cathy na initially ay ayaw niya sanang magkaroon ng sequel ang OMC: “Sa totoo lang, the sequel is the hardest film I’ve ever made. Pero I’ve spoken to a lot of people na nagkagusto sa One More Chance, so I decided sige, let’s do a part two. Given that, siyempre, mas mataas ang expectations ng tao. Kailangang higitan mo ‘yung first.”
By its title, self-explanatory na ang bida rito ay nagmahalan, but somewhere along the way they see themselves having their share of flaws and faults in the relationship.
Naitanong tuloy namin kina John Lloyd at Bea kung sa totoong buhay ba, are they second chance givers or second chance recipients. Without any reference to their respective partners sa ngayon, pareho lang halos ng sagot ang reunited loveteam: mas masarap magbigay o umunawa sa kanilang minamahal.
But of course, with that second-chance giving comes the “ifs” and “buts”. Depende rin daw ‘yon sa sitwasyon.
Between JLC’s and Bea’s answers, mas kinapulutan din namin ng pagiging makatotohanan ang pananaw ng aktor sa usapin tungkol sa pag-ibig. “Lahat naman tayo, biktima ng pag-ibig. Pero masarap din ‘yung pinaglalaruan ka ng pag-ibig. Hindi mo naman puwedeng paglaruan ang pag-ibig, ang laki-laki nu’n!”
Opening in theatres nationwide ngayong araw na ito, A Second Chance is a refreshing breather away from a month-long lull bago ang taunang Metro Manila Film Festival. With entries in the annual race which focus on revenues rather than on quality, mas maganda namang ‘di hamak na ihain sa mga manonood ang may katuturang love story than cinematic rubbish.
