Atlantis Productions proudly announces that it has been handpicked by Disney Theatricals to stage the Asian Premiere of its newest full-length stage musical Disney’s ALADDIN. Sa direksyon nina Bobby Garcia at Chari Arespacochaga, ang musical ay ipalalabas simula November 16 hanggang December 9 sa Meralco Theater, Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City.
Sino sa atin ang hindi naaliw sa kuwento ni Aladdin, isang street-smart commoner na biglang nagbago ang takbo ng buhay with one rub of a magic lamp? Muling pakinggan ang sikat na awiting A Whole New World at makisaya kina Jafar, Iago, Sultan, Genie, Aladdin at Jasmine sa isang magical musical theatre para sa buong pamilya.
Gaganap bilang Aladdin si Tom Rodriguez na unang nakilala ng publiko bilang isa sa mga housemates ni Kuya sa PBB. Disney’s ALADDIN marks his professional musical theatre debut. “It’s literally like having a dream come true. I grew up watching Aladdin. I mean, what kid didn’t want to play Aladdin?! And now being given this exciting opportunity, the kid in me is just so ecstatic and beaming with pride and joy. Natatawa nga ako kasi hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala na totoo ito, na nangyayari ito. I’m really looking forward to this experience.”
K-La Rivera portrays Princess Jasmine in the musical. Una nang kinilala ang kanyang husay sa pag-arte bilang si Nina sa In the Heights where she received an Aliw Award nomination for Best Actress. Matatandaang si Lea Salonga ang singing voice ni Princess Jasmine sa 1992 movie na Aladdin and she performed the well-loved song A Whole New World with Brad Kane at the 65th Annual Academy Awards where the song won an Oscar. Handa na ba siya sa posibilidad na maikumpara kay Lea? “There will never ever be another Lea Salonga, and with her being the original Princess Jasmine I don’t think there will ever be a more perfect version of A Whole New World. It’s a song I grew up singing on karaoke, and now for me to be able to sing it on stage portraying the role of Princess Jasmine, it’s something I am just ecstatic about and I cannot wait to start. I’ll do my best to make her proud!”
Samantala, sina Aiza Seguerra at Calvin Millado naman ang maghahalinhinan sa pagganap bilang si Genie. They previously worked together in the musicals The Rocky Horror Show, Avenue Q and Rock of Ages.
ALADDIN FEATURES music by eight-time Oscar Award winner Alan Menken and Lyrics by Oscar Award winner Howard Ashman, Oscar Award winner Tim Rice and Tony Award nominated lyricist Chad Beguelin (who also wrote the brand new book of the musical).
