KARYLLE AND Christian Bautista recently reunited for the third time in the revival of Rama Hari which was staged at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). They previously worked together on the hit Asian television musical series The Kitchen Musical where Karylle played Maddie Avilon samantalang si Christian naman ang kanyang childhood friend na si Daniel Ray. A few years ago, they appeared together on Stages’ production of West Side Story where they portrayed star-crossed lovers Tony and Maria.
Little did the public know that Karylle and Christian briefly dated each other after the singer/actress separated from former boyfriend Dingdong Dantes. “There was a time during West Side Story [na] nagkagustuhan kami ng kaunti. Pero I knew where she was coming from,” Christian admitted on The Buzz. “Ako kasi hindi ako ligaw agad. Nagiging friends muna and then sometimes we did go out.”
Karylle explained, “Ang mahirap kasi sa time na iyon na sobra akong broken-hearted. Everyone kept telling me, don’t rush into love. And since he was such a good friend, I didn’t want to mess that up.”
“And iyong time din na iyon, sinasabi ng mga tao, date everyone. Parang ganoon iyong mga advice. Dahil wala kang self-esteem, di mo alam ang gagawin mo to pick up the pieces. So iyon ang ginawa ko, nag-date ako ng nag-date.”
Friendly dates lang naman ang namagitan sa kanilang dalawa. Ito rin ang nagbigay ng pagkakataon para makilala pa nila ng lubusan ang isa’t isa.
Pero sabi nga nila, kung ‘di ukol ay ‘di bubukol. At ngayon ay kapwa na sila masaya sa kani-kanilang lovelife. Umaawit ngayon ang kanilang mga puso because they are in love. Christian is now in a romantic relationship with Carla Dunareanu na kasamahan nila ni Karylle sa The Kitchen Musical samantalang si Karylle naman is going out with Yael Yuzon, Spongecola’s lead vocalist.
Hindi man sila nagkatuluyan sa totoong buhay ay naging mabuting magkaibigan naman silang dalawa. And they are the best partners onstage. “Ako aaminin ko when we’re onstage together kinikilig talaga ako. And I’ve allowed myself that. Parang feeling ko ‘di man kami nagkatuluyan, nagkatuluyan kami sa stage. Iyon na ang alternate universe, iyong in another time and place naging tayo, ‘eto na iyon. And it happens every so often,” Karylle said.
Kaibigan, usap tayo muli!
