IN A RECENT survey among Saturday programs, naungusan ng Wil Time Big Time ang show ni Manny Pacquiao; the former registered 7-plus percent samantalang wala pa sa kalahati nito ang nakuha ng slightly katapat nitong panoorin.
Kung tutuusin, nakakaengganyo namang tutukan ang programa ni Pacman. True to its title, bumabaha nga ito ng maraming papremyong pera. Pero hindi tulad ng kay Willie, Pacman’s show is wanting of entertainment value.
Iba pa rin kasi kung may kinaaaliwang bahagi sa show, as this is essentially a prize in itself next to the monetary rewards that await the viewer.
Samantala, nakasungkit na naman si Willie sa ikatlong pagkakataon ng kanyang legal victory (at the appellate court). This came after the supplemental motion for partial reconsideration filed by ABS-CBN, that earlier questioned CA’S previous decision seeking to dismiss the petition for review and prohibition on Willie’s program, was junked.
Pinagtibay ng resolusyon ng CA First Division ang petition for intervention ni Willie kaugnay ng inihaing infringement case ng ABS-CBN, stating that the TV host’s plea is “actual, material and immediate.”
THE WAY ABS-CBN, its recording arm which is Star Records in particular, is building up Angeline Quinto offers a telling sign of things to come.
Angeline’s claim to fame, or a bit of it, is the station’s Star Power Season 1. At ilang buwan pa lang ang nakararaan, dumarami ang exposures ng dalaga, one of which ay ang tinig sa likod ng pelikulang Way Back Home ng Star Cinema.
In the music department at ABS-CBN, it’s a known fact that among the young crop of female singers, this is dominated by Sarah Geronimo. But Sarah, being a Viva artist bound by whatever special contract with ABS-CBN, has not escaped rumors na lilipat na siya sa TV5. Tulad ng alam ng marami, Viva has entered into co-production ventures with the Kapatid Network, and Sarah’s transfer, if ever, is not a far-fetched idea.
In terms of preparedness, tiyak na nasisilip na ito ng ABS-CBN. And what better way not to get caught with its pants down than grooming the next “Sarah Geronimo” in its turf.
‘Yun nga lang, there’s no comparison between the “outgoing” and the “incoming.” ‘Di hamak na mas batang nagsimula sa kanyang singing career si Sarah, while Angeline is already above 20. Malaki rin ang agwat ng kanilang vocal range: Sarah is a Birit Queen, while Angeline is slightly above an amateur singer who does not possess a distinct voice.
Having spent most of his life in a foreign land, maaaring hindi pa well-adjusted sa kulturang Pinoy si Diego, idagdag pa ang napapabalitang differences nila ng kanyang ama who wants him focused on his studies more than to pursue a career in showbiz.
Ang dinig naming, mismong ang ina na rin ni Diego, retired actress and now Australia-based Teresa, ang nagpasyang huwag nang tumuloy ang anak sa bahay ni Cesar. Being a minor, there looms a problem kung ipipilit ni Diego ang kanyang showbiz career (with his mom’s blessing, after all) as he needs parental consent.
If there exists a father-and-son dispute, in the end ay si Cesar pa rin ang mananaig over his whimsical son.
PERSONAL: THERE IS more to being behind the wheel taking his passenger to the latter’s destination. Responsibilidad din ng isang taxi driver in ensuring the safety of his rider. Pero tulad ng driver na nagsoli ng mamahaling sapatos ni Ruffa Gutierrez recently, kapuri-puri rin ang pagiging matapat sa tungkulin ni Ginoong Danilo Villanueva of Angel of J Taxi, na nagsoli ng mahahalagang IDs at dalawang mobile phones ng aking pinsang si Elizabeth Decena that he brought to her house himself.Through this column ay nais muling magpasalamat ang pinsan ko kay Mang Danny, may your tribe increase.
