ANG MTRCB (Movie and Television and Classification Board ) at ang Ateneo de Manila University ay nag-sign last Friday ng memorandum of understanding for the adoption and development of rights-based approach to media-related issues and concerns involving women, children, persons with disabilities and other sectors.
Si MTRCB Chairman Eugenio Villareal ang nag-anunsiyo ng kanilang partnership sa ADMU’s Human Rights Center para mas palakasin ang industry’s review and classification system.
Ayon nga kay Dean Sedrey Candelaria ng Ateneo Law School, “I guarantee you that we are more than qualified to partner with you (MTRCB) on the enforcement of MTRCB rules in human rights standards. We will voluntarily assist the board.”
Dagdag naman ni AHRC executive director Ray Paolo Santiago. Ang Ateneo raw ay may programa at adhikain para sa karapatang pambata at human rights at women’s rights advocacy as well.
Paliwanag naman ni Chairman Toto, “ That the volunteer services of the Ateneo Human Rights Center which is an improvement on the deputy system will significantly impact on MTRCB’s Gender and Development Program. MTRCB is part of the National Government’s Gender Equality Committee.”
Kasamang nag-sign ang Board Members na sina Noel del Prado, Eric Henry Mallonga, Ma. Carmen Musngi, Cecilia Nubla, Jay Revestir, Ricardo Salomon Jr, and Jose Antonio Velasco, Candelaria, Santiago, and faculty members Amparita Sta. Maria, Kim Claudio, Anna Cecilia Paras and Kris Merginio.
Bukod sa nasabing MTRCB at ADMU’s Human Rights Center, nakipagkita rin at nagkaroon ng pag-uusap si Chairman Toto sa mga officer at member ng Directors Guild of the Philippines, Inc., headed by Joel Lamangan on the state and prospects of the film industry.
Pahabol pa ni Chairman Toto, “Our monitoring agents have been doing discreet oculars at the various bus terminals in the Metro. We reiterate our warning to PUVs to only show films rated until PG (Parental Guidance) only.”
