I HAD an exclusive interview with Nikki Gil on Bandila. Naging kontrobersyal man siya kamakailan dahil sa pinagdaang pagsubok sa buhay pag-ibig ay makikitang she is trying her best to move on and to stay positive in life. I told her she is very busy.
“I am and I like it that way,” sagot niya.
Kumusta na siya? “I’m good.”
Nikki is part of the Chito Roño movie, Badil.
“It was set the day before election day at little do we know maraming nagaganap. Ako, I am privy to the fact na totoo talagang nagaganap ang vote-buying but I did not know na mayroong secret system talaga. May sistema talaga and you will be surprised, appalled by the amount of money that is being handed out,” kuwento niya.
I asked her kung nasasanay na ba siyang gumanap ng mga off beat roles gaya ng kanyang ginampanan sa Mundo Man ay Magunaw where she earned rave reviews for her brilliant acting.
“I’m liking it. I really don’t mind being stereotyped or typecast as a kontrabida. Marami ka pang puwedeng gawin sa pagiging kontrabida.”
Hindi maiiwasang pag-usapan ang tungkol sa kanyang break-up with Billy Crawford. That was the first time she talked about the separation. Just before we started our conversation she told me, “Tito Boy, you can ask me anything.”
“I am happy. I am thankful. I’m excited. I feel like right now I am at the center of God’s will.”
I asked her to share what she can about the separation.
“If I were to give a reason for it because I don’t think it was never made clear: differences in values. It’s one of the things that napakaimportante iyon na pareho kayo ng pinaniniwalaan, pareho kayo ng values. It has to be the same otherwise it won’t work.”
Nabigla ang publiko sa balitang hiwalayan because they were considered as a prefect couple. Marami ang nagtatanong what really happened.
“I think more important is what’s happening now. For me, that’s more important. There’s no use looking back. I just want to look forward. I just want to be excited for the things to come and the people that I’ll be meeting.”
She had a hard time answering when I asked her if she is hoping to be friends again with him.
Nikki talked about lessons learned from her break-up.
“Ako, ang natutunan ko [is] what I’m capable of doing pagdating sa usapang pag-ibig. I feel like I know my limits, I know when to walk away because I know that I’ve done everything I could to make it work. I don’t want to regret anything and say, ‘I could have done this’. I think we have been given enough time to really make it work. And I’m okay.
“‘Pag bumangon ka naman mula sa pagkakadapa, of course you are in pain for a while but in hindsight you realize that there are so many things that you’ve learned and so many things that you’ve learned about yourself and about being a partner which will really equip you for your future partner.”
I directly asked her if there was there a third party involved.
“You know at this point, Tito Boy, I don’t think it’s any of my business anymore.”
Despite what happened, Nikki still believes in love.
“Oo naman. I still believe in love now more than ever because I am excited because naniniwala ako na siyempre kung ano ang itinanim mo, iyon ang aanihin mo. I have a very simple concept of love which is you trust, you love a person,
you give your everything, and you make it work.”
I told her that’s not what (always) life is all about.
“But you can hope that you will get it right the next time around,” she enthused.
Kaibigan, usap tayo muli!
