FILIPINO movie fans are in for a treat this December! Did you know that there are more than ten titles added in Netflix Philippines‘ catalogue? Some of these films are also available in other parts of Asia and the world.
What we love about the new additions is there’s a nice mix of mainstream and indie films. Whether you want to laugh, cry, be thrilled or feel some romance, there’s something for you!
Here are some of the Pinoy Films you can watch on Netflix starting this December in no particular order.
1. KALEL, 15
Starring: Elijah Canlas, Jaclyn Jose and Mr. Eddie Garcia
LOGLINE: Surrounded by tensions and secrets, a teenage boy searches for validation and navigates life with a dysfunctional family following an HIV diagnosis.
Before he became one of the reigning King of BL series, Elijah Canlas made an impressive performance in Jun Robles Lana’s Kalel, 15. It is also the last film of the late Eddie Garcia shown in selected cinemas last December 2019. The film garnered a lot of awards and accolades in various film festivals abroad.
2. Just the Way You Are
Starring Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano
LOGLINE: An overconfident teen bets he can make a homely transfer student fall in love with him in 30 days—but the wager starts to play games with his heart.
This is Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano’s launching film as a loveteam. Thanks to the chemistry they’ve shown in the Dingdong-Bea film ‘She’s the One’ and the success of their teleserye ‘Forevermore’, the now real-life couple were chosen to star in the adaptation of the popular Wattpad novel ‘The Bet’.
3. She’s the One
Starring: Dingdong Dantes, Bea Alonzo, Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano
LOGLINE: When his best friend gets stranded in the rain and becomes the subject of a romantic viral video, a morning show host must confront his true feelings.
Speaking of LizQuen, She’s the One is a good film to watch if you’ve ever fell in love with your bestfriend. The fresh team-up of Dingdong Dantes and Bea Alonzo was a welcome change for moviegoers (Dingdong is from GMA-7 while Bea is a homegrown talent of ABS-CBN). This film is perfect to be included in your Christmas movie marathon and yep, LizQuen fans are forever thankful to this film which paved the way for their idols to be seen by the management.
4.The Panti Sisters
Starring Paolo Ballesteros, Christian Bables and Martin del Rosario
LOGLINE: Three gay siblings told by their terminally ill father that they must each produce a grandchild to inherit their share of fortune.
Paolo Ballesteros and Christian Bables were besties in Die Beautiful. Martin del Rosario played the lead role in Born Beautiful. Put the three of them together in one film, it will surely be a box-office hit!
And it did become the #1 film at the 2019 Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino! This funny, naughty yet heartwarming film is finally available on Netflix! If you need to spice up your life this quarantine, this is a good and loud gay film to watch!
5. Bwakaw
Starring Eddie Garcia, Rex Cortez and Princess the Dog
LOGLINE: Gruff and alone, retiree Rene rejects most human contact but begins to soften when he comes to terms with his homosexuality.
In our own opinion, this is one of the best Pinoy films with a gay lead character. This also paved the way for Jun Robles Lana to really make a mark in the film industry after years of being a writer in GMA Network. This Cinemalaya-produced film won a lot of awards here and abroad including several Best Actor Awards for Eddie Garcia and Best Director trophies for Direk Jun Robles Lana.
Do you like the movies on the list so far? Dontcha worry because we have more Pinoy films for you! Happy Christmas Netflix and Chill!
