Dito iikot ang buong istorya ng Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning rock musical na Next to Normal which deals with a woman’s lifelong struggle with bipolar disorder and depression. The musical will open the 2011 Season of Atlantis Productions.
Next to Normal is a rock musical with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt. These two geniuses received the 2009 Tony Award for Best Score and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Tiyak na magiging matagumpay ang pagtatanghal ng Next to Normal dahil hindi matatawaran ang husay ng Atlantis pagdating sa mga bigating musicals. Some of their successful musicals include Avenue Q, Legally Blonde, Xanadu and the Manila and Singapore runs of A Little Night of Music.
My good friend Bobby Garcia directs the Manila production of Next to Normal na unang licensed English language production sa labas ng Amerika. He says, “I am thrilled that Atlantis is opening 2011 with a show as ground breaking and as deman-ding as Next to Normal. It is one of the most unlikely hit musicals to have ever opened on a Broadway stage, and I am thrilled that we will get to create our own unique family for this production. When I saw Next to Normal off Broadway two years ago and on Broadway last year, I was once again excited for the future of musical theatre.”
Kasama sa cast ng Next to Normal ang mga batikan sa larangan ng theater acting tulad nina Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo bilang si ‘Diana Goodman’ at Jett Pangan bilang si ‘Dan Goodman’. The characters they will portray are two of the most demanding roles written for musical theatre originated on the Broadway stage by Tony Award-winning actress Alice Ripley and J. Ro-bert Spencer. Kasama rin sa cast sina Felix Rivera, Bea Garcia, Jake Macapagal, at Pilipinas Got Talent finalist Markki Stroem.
Si Menchu na isa sa mga most accomplished theatre actresses ng bansa ay magre-release ng CD-Lite na kapapalooban ng pitong musical theatre songs from shows she has performed in the past. The CD will feature two songs from Next to Normal and is produced by Atlantis Productions and released by Sony Music. It will initially be available at the theatre lobby during performances.
Next to Normal features Lighting Design by Shoko Matsumoto, Choreography by Chari Arespacochaga, Costume Design by Twinkle Zamora, Music Direction by Ceejay Javier and Vocal Coaching by ManMan Angsico.
