BIGLANG-BIGLA AY nothing but replays ang ipinalalabas na episodes ng weekend musical show nina Sharon Cuneta at Ogie Alcasid sa Singko. Ang pralala ng TV5 was that prior to its being rumored to having been axed unceremoniously ay nagre-rate diumano ang The Mega and the Songwriter.
People with keen minds would ask: If something was doing good, as claimed by the entity responsible for it, why rock the boat?
Ang ikinagulat ko ay nang masulat na nagkaroon ng isyu tungkol sa production budget diumano ng naturang show, ayon sa paliwanag ng sa tanda ko ay executive producer nito. These days kasi, production people have also become too chummy with the press na in the process, information deemed confidential are leaked to media.
Ang nakababaliw dito ay kung bakit hindi man lang nag-release ng statement ang TV5 via its Corp Comm office to explain what really became of the show. And mind you, hindi naman isang starlet ang headliner ng programa kundi isang tinagurian pa ngang Megastar. Some writer-friends have called Shawie everything from faded star to aging idol but I prefer to be kinder to the Megastar.
I may not be a Sharonian but that is beside the point. I grew up in the decade that produced Sharon Cuneta and even though I feel that her stardom, especially in the early stages, had a certain degree of “carefully-masterminded machinations” to it, as opposed to her arch rival Maricel Soriano’s which was more free-flowing, natural, and not at all orchestrated, I accord Sharon the respect that she deserves for being simply one of the last four movie queens (the elite circle, of course, also includes Nora Aunor, Vilma Santos, and Maricel Soriano). How about Judy Ann Santos, ‘ka mo? Well, malapit-lapit na siya pero if criteria were stricter, may panganib siyang malaglag sa pagkakasali sa exclusive roster na ito.
As for Sharon’s show with Ogie, last I heard is that TV5 is bringing it back in February. Again, there was no statement at all from TV5 about this development. Kung sana ay naging maagap ang TV5 sa pag-i-issue ng statement ukol dito at hindi naging too chirpy ang isa sa mga ehekutibo behind the show, naiwasan ang pagkalat ng insider information na frankly speaking ay hindi nakatulong at all sa karera ni Shawie at this point in time na tipong her best years are behind her.
May this serve as a lesson to Manny Pangilinan’s TV network.
