I admit that I don’t know who Dennis Trillo is prior to watching his breakthrough role in the fantastic film Aishite Imasu. For me, his performance there was simply, Oscar worthy.
So aside from the utterly heartbreaking visuals, Dennis proved that he has the acting chops to back it up. Winning awards here and there, you know he’s got two International Emmy nominations, you know that this guy is going to go a long way.
As he turns the big 4-0 this year, honestly he doesn’t look a day over 30, let us look back at the things you didn’t know about Dennis Trillo, the one and only Drama King!
EARLY LIFE
Dennis Trillo was born as Abelardo Dennis Florencio Ho on May 12, 1981 in Quezon City, Philippines to Filipino and CHinese-Filipino parents. He did his schooling at the Ateneo De Manila University (for grades school) and Jose Abad Santos Memorial School (for his high school education). He got his B.A. in International Studies at Miriam College.
Before his life in showbusiness, he was a band member for the Moyg. The band had been performing in different areas in Baguio CIty before he was discovered.
CAREER BEGINNINGS
Dennis was introduced to be a part of Star Circle batch 10, with Bea Alonzo and TJ Trinidad. He landed his first television show in the teen oriented drama Tabing Ilog, playing a minor role. Throughout his stay in ABS CBN, he played support roles in television series such as Pangako Sa’yo and Sa Dulo Ng Walang Hanggan.
Dennis transferred to GMA Artist Center in 2003. He landed a role in the romantic drama series Kahit Kailan, playing the character of David. He also landed acting opportunities in the shows Twin Hearts and Love to Love. He got his first lead role in the fantasy series Mulawin opposite Angel Locsin and Richard Gutierrez.
BREAKTHROUGH
In 2004, Dennis landed the lead role in the film Aishite Imasu 1941: Mahal Kita. He played the role of a transgender woman who got tortured for information by the Japanese. His acting brought him his first acting award at the 30th Metro manila Film Festival as the Best Supporting Actor.
From this project, he landed the main roles opposite other bankable stars. In 2005, he again starred with Angel Locsin in the fantasy series Darna. In the same year, he starred in the drama series Now and Forever: Agos together with Sunshine Dizon, Tanya Garcia, Lani Mercado and Christopher De Leon.
EXPANSIVE ACTING CAREER
Dennis’ acting depth had allowed him to portray various characters in different dramas and movies. For one, he can play fantasy roles quite well, landing him roles in huge productions such as Encantadia, Majika, Etheria and Gagambino.
In fact, he had received two International Emmy nominations to date. First was with the drama series Magdusa Ka (stars Iwa Moto and Katrina Halili) and My Husband’s Lover (With Tom Rodriguez and Carla Abellana).
Some of our favorite Dennis Trillo drama projects include Sinner or Saint (with Bianca King and Alessandra de Rossi), Adik Sa’yo, Temptation of Wife (with Marian Rivera and Glaiza de Castro), Juan Happy Love Story (with Heart Evangelista), The One That Got Away (with Lovi Poe, Rhian Ramos & Max Collins) and Cain at Abel, where he got reunited with Dingdong Dantes.
MUSIC CAREER
Dennis, despite being busy with his television and movie career, never neglected his first roots. He had produced two studio albums – Dennis Trillo in 2007 and TomDen in 2013. The latter is certified platinum according to the Philippine Association of The Record Industry. He also contributed to a compilation album, Seasons of Love in 2014.
He also released a couple of singles throughout the years, the earliest being “All About Love” in 2007. He collaborated with Tom Rodriguez in 2014 with the song “Forever”. He lent his singing repertoire to various theme songs of different television series with the songs “Sa Iyo Na Lang Ako”, “Tibok ng Puso”, “Kailan Man” and “Hinahanap Hanap Kita”.
Well, reading and writing through those accolades is quite exhausting, and honestly super impressive! From a musician to a multi-awarded actor, what else can’t Dennis do?
We know that the fans of Dennis Trillo (like us) miss him so much. No need to fret because he is set to make a grand comeback on GMA’s primetime soon with Legal Wives. Who’s excited?
