From singing sensation to a budding actor, Gigi de Lana is making waves in the entertainment industry with her talent, at a young age too!
We all know her as the amazing, talented singer who has been entertaining us since PopStar Kids to weekly variety shows. She can dance, and sing and own the entire stage. But now, she is turning out to be a bankable actor as well!
Here are some of the things you may not know about Gigi De Lana, the star of the newest iQiyi Filipino series, Hello, Heart.
EARLY LIFE
Gigi was born as Mary Gidget Dela Llana on September 24, 1996 in Olongapo City, Zambales, Philippines. Although she was born in the Northern part of the country, Gigi and her mother had moved to Laguna when she was little. It was where she spent her growing up and formative years.
She got educated at the Calamba Doctors’ College and also attended the Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Manila.
CAREER BEGINNINGS
Gigi had already have her eyes on the entertainment industry since she was a young girl. She joined the reality talent competition Popstar Kids in its second season where she emerged as a grand finalist. The same competition, also churned out talented singers such as Rita Iringan (now Rita Daniela) and Julie Ann San Jose. The show only had two seasons and was hosted by the talented Kyla.
Being the talented singer/performer that she is, Gigi performed for a while as a member of the group SugarPop. Coined by Jaya, one of the hosts and singers of SOP Rules, the members were finalists and contestants of the show Popstar Kids. Gigi was with the group until 2009.
NOTABLE WORKS
In films, Gigi made her grand appearance when she landed the role of Love Mae Tete in the movie Four Sisters Before the Wedding. The film is a prequel to the iconic 2013 movie Four Sisters and a Wedding which starred Angel Locsin, Shaina Magdayao, Bea Alonzo, Toni Gonzaga and Enchong Dee.
In television/digital, Gigi landed her main role in the show Hello, Heart. The series stars Gigi with veteran actor Gerald Anderson in a romantic comedy show. Gigi plays the role of Heart, a beautiful, hardworking, embodiment of sunshine girl who agreed to pose as the wife of her complete opposite – cold, cunning and business minded guy played by Gerald Anderson. The two set out on an arranged marriage to please the latter’s grandmother. The show could be seen in the streaming platform iQiyi International. Hello, heart is the first Philippine Series of the said streaming platform.
SINGLES AND SOUNDTRACKS
You know quite well that this lady can sing, and sing well! So it is not a surprise to see, hear and watch her rending high notes or melodious songs every now and then. But what you don’t know is that lady already lent her voice in two shows’ OST.
Both in 2021, Gigi sang the song “Nasa’yo Ako” for the show Viral Scandal. She also loaned her voice to her own show Hello, Heart for the song “Bakit Nga Ba Mahal Kita”.
Outside OSTs, Gigi released the single Sakalam in 2021. The single, composed by Erwin Lacsa and Romeo Marquez is under Star Music.
Is she not amazing or not? She’s just 25 but she already accomplished a lot in her life. I am honestly happy that she was given this big break because I know she can pull any role off!
