OKAY, I’ll admit, I was one of the many people who sometimes mistake Glaiza De Castro with the other equally beautiful, talented and all around good human being, Angel Locsin.
But throughout the years, Glaiza had proven, through consistent hard work, terrific projects and growth in her craft that she is her own identity. She is not the second someone, she is the first and only Glaiza.
Now that today is here special day, let us look back on Glaiza’s early beginning, breakthrough and her current career. We might find some interesting facts and information about one of GMA’s favorite bida-kontrabida!
EARLY LIFE
Glaiza Castro Galura was born on January 21, 1988 in the city of Valenzuela, Philippines. Her parents are both musicians and have performed all over various Asian countries. This probably influenced her during her formation years, when she sang in church choirs and even formed a band with her friends. Her brother, Alchris Galura, also entered showbusiness after his sister.
ENTRY TO SHOWBUSINESS
Unknown to many, she began her showbusiness career in GMA when she was was just thirteen years old in 2001. She played a minor role in the television drama romance series, Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin which stars Angelika Dela Cruz. Only a few months in with GMA, she transferred to ABS-CBN and was there from 2001 to 2006, under the management of Star Magic.
Among her projects with ABS-CBN are with the teen oriented show, Berks in 2002, Spirits in 2003 and Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin in 2005. All of which are minor roles.
BREAKTHROUGH
After her contract ended, she transferred back to GMA Network in 2006 and has been a talent since then. Her first project with the network is with the show Fantastikids in 2006. She branched out her career by joining the Sunday Variety show SOP Fully Charged as a host and performer from 2007 to 2010. With her more than a decade career with GMA, she landed numerous roles, that solidified her name in the industry.
Her breakthrough and first lead role came with the primetime fantasy series Grazilda, an adaptation of the world famous fairy tale, Cinderella. She acted alongside Geoff Eigenmann, Yasmien Kurdi, Jolina Magadangal and Cherie Gil. This is a big leap in Glaiza’s career as she often played villainous roles in television such Kung Aagawin Mo Ang Lahat Sa Akin and Stairway to Heaven.
AWARDS AND DISCOGRAPHY
With her expansive career, it is impossible for critics and award giving bodies to not notice her steadily improving acting caliber. In 2012, she won the Most Popular TV Series Villain for her work in Temptation of Wife. She also won numerous awards for her role in the series The Rich Man’s Daughter.
Apart from her acting accolades, Glaiza is also an accomplished musician/singer/recording artist. She has four albums under her belt – Magbalik Ka (2001), Glaiza (2006), Synthesis (2015) and Magandang Simulain (2017). She also contributed to the original soundtracks of her various television series such as Nais Ko (Kaputol ng Isang Awit theme song), Kapalaran (Grazilda theme song), Till It’s Time (The Rich Man’s Daughter theme song) and Dito Sa Aking Mundo (Contessa theme song).
