AT THE START of her career, we all know her as Anne Curtis’ younger sister. And honestly who wouldn’t? If you have been following the artistas long enough, you would know by now that that is actually Anne’s real surname.
As time went on, Jasmine Curtis-Smith graduated from taking minor supporting roles, to landing more meaty roles. She’s appeared on magazine covers, landed commercials in tv and print ads, and portrayed leading lady roles in different projects.
After years and years of being associated as this and that, Jasmine finally proven that she is more than just someone’s sister, she is an entire different person, ready to take on the world as her oyster. Here are some of the things you may not know about Jasmine Curtis-Smith.
EARLY LIFE
Jasmine was born as Jasmine Cassandra Ojales Curtis-Smith on April 6, 1994 in Melbourne, Victoria to Carmencita Ojales, a Filipina and James Ernest Curtis-Smith, an Australian. She is the middle child in three siblings – Anne, the eldest, Jasmine, the middle child and Thomas James, the youngest.
Although she was born in Australia, she spent some of her childhood days in the Philippines, getting educated at the St Paul College in Pasig. She went back to Australia to finish her elementary and high school education, graduating at the Loyola College in Melbourne.
CAREER BEGINNINGS
Although Jasmine had already been scouted in the Philippines during her vacations to visit her sister, it was only when she guested in It’s Showtime when networks began their goal of signing her. She eventually signed in with TV5 in 2010.
Her first television miniseries is with JC de Vera in the remake of the film Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum in 2011. The following year, landed the project Nandito Ako, another miniseries which stars Eula Caballero and David Archuleta.
BREAKTHROUGH
Her acting acumen was finally noticed when she starred in the film Transit, where she played an Israel-Filipino child who faces deportation. The film was entered in the 18th Busan International Film Festival, 86th Academy Awards (Best Foreign Language Film) and 9th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, where she won the Best Supporting Actress Award.
In 2018, she transferred from her precious network to GMA Network where she worked with veteran actor Carla Abellana in the drama television series Pamilya Roces. She was also a main cast in the remake of the internationally famous Korean Drama Descendants of the Sun and worked with Jennylyn Mercado and Dingdong Dantes.
FILMS
Jasmine had done a lot of films since her debut. Apart from Transit, she had also won the 2016 Cinemalaya One Originals Film Festival award for Best Actress for her work in Baka Bukas, a romantic independent drama about a lesbian who started to fall in love with her best friend.
In 2017, she won the Best Supporting Actress for both the MMFF and FAP Luna Awards for her performance in the movie Siargao, a romance film where she worked with Jericho Rosales and Erich Gonzales.
Some of Jasmine’s latest film projects include Alter Me, General Admission and Midnight in the Perfect World.
CURRENT WORK
Jasmine is currently working on the project The World Between Us, a drama romance television series that also stars Alden Richards and Tom Rodriguez. The show also casted veterans such as Jaclyn Jose, Dina Bonnevie and Sid Lucero.
