Things You Didn’t Know About Liza Soberano

It is impossible for anybody in the country to not know Liza Soberano. Everybody, one way or another, would have seen her, watched her, heard of her and known her from every bit of medium you could find.

Her gorgeous looks are splattered across magazines, billboards, products and television. But apart from the fame and glamour, Liza is lovable just as she is. Her shiny as a penny vibe, grounded demeanor and over-all kind and genuine personality makes it difficult for anybody not to like her.

Now that our girl Liza is turning a year older and wiser, let’s look back at her career from her early beginnings in the United States. Read on and be enlightened!

EARLY LIFE

Liza was born Hope Elizabeth Soberano on January 4, 1998 in Santa Clara, California. Her father is a native Pangasinan – John Castillo Soberano, while her mom is an American – Jacqulyn Elizabeth Hanley. Although she did her growing up years in California, it was her paternal grandparents who raised her due to the separation of her parents. When she was ten years old, she moved to the Philippines to live with her father and paternal relatives. She has three sisters, and four brothers.

Although she has been known as an excellent actress, Liza started her career in the industry as a model. Only a few years after moving to Manila, she already had some offers to do modelling for print ads. When she was a teenager, she was spotted by a talent scout who introduced her to her current manager, Ogie Diaz. From there, she studied speaking in Tagalog in anticipation for television and film projects.

EARLY CAREER

Her acting debut on the television was in 2011, with Wansapanataym. It was followed by a minor role in the drama Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo and was credited under her other name – Hope Soberano. In 2013, she became a regular co-host at ASAP and appeared in the movie Must Be…Love, playing Daniel Padilla’s other love interest. In the same year, she was first paired with Enrique Gil in the movie She’s The One which stars Bea Alonzo and Dingdong Dantes. She landed the role of Daniel Padilla’s love interest in the primetime series Got To Believe in 2014.

BREAKTHROUGH

Liza’s breakthrough came in the form of a primetime television series, where she landed the lead role of the top rating show Forevermore in 2014. She was paired with Enrique Gil who landed the leading male role. The success of the show, its appeal to the masses and the chemistry of the love team made Liza and Enrique household names.

Their popularity was furthered by their movie projects such as Just The Way You Are, Everyday, I Love You, My Exs and Whys and Alone/Together. In her almost a decade career, she had participated in a total of six films, two of which she played a supporting role and the other four as the lead actress.

In 2017, Liza confirmed that she landed the titular role of the iconic Darna that would be made in film and was set to release in 2019. However, an unfortunate incident during the filming of her other television series, Bagani, caused her to back out from the role to prioritize her healing and recovery.

AWARDS AND NOMINATIONS

Throughout her career, her acting prowess had been recognized by numerous award giving bodies. Her first recognition was with the PMPC Star Awards for Television in 2013 when she was nominated for the Best Female New TV Personality  award. Her work in the series Forevermore earned her the Most Promising Female Star of the Year award from the GMMSF Box-Office Entertainment Awards. She won the Best Televison Actress Awards at the 4th Paragala: The Central Luzon Media Awards for her work on Dolce Amore in 2016. Finally she was awarded the Box Office Queen in 2018 by the 49th GMMSF Box-Office Entertainment Awards for her movie My Exs and Whys.
