Box Office figures wouldn’t lie.
Ilang taon nang kasali sa MMFF ang mga pelikula ni Vice Ganda, and despite the pukpukan competition against a couple of Vic Sotto entries na sa mga umpisang araw lang naman malakas, on the last day of commercial run ay ‘yung kay Vice Ganda ang certified biggest blockbuster.
This year, mukhang it’s a history-repeats-itself scenario with VG’s entry “Beauty & The Bestie” giving another Vic Sotto “chopsuey” movie run for its money! Sabihin na kasi nating for the come-on ay sinadyang i-capitalize ang phenomenal loveteam sa TV, Star Cinema has a potential pantapat to it: ang tambalang James Reid at Nadine Lustre which heavily banks on the ratings supremacy of their On The Wings of Love most widely followed teleserye.
This we found a bit too funny lang during the grand presscon of “Beauty & The Bestie”, kung saan Coco Martin is also a box-office attraction. Way past the registration area leading to the entrance of ABS-CBN’s 9501 at the ELJ Bldg., there stood road cones on both sides sa red carpet.
Which prompted us to think: teka, hindi ba’t ang mga road cones na ‘yon in white and orange ay nakahilera sa mga pangunahing kalye? So, mala-“kalyeserye” ba ang “Beauty & The Bestie” since sa takbo ng maaksiyong Wenn Deramas comedy film na ito would require road scenes?
Of course, that was our subtle and polite way of connecting the movie to the popular kalyeserye on TV na maituturing na bangungot sa It’s Showtime led by Vice Ganda.
